Back to the drawing board in city manager search
ELLSWORTH — The City Council has reopened a search to fill the vacant city manager position after its leading candidate withdrew from negotiations.
“It had nothing to do with the actual negotiations. We were getting pretty close on terms,” Council Chairman Dale Hamilton said on Dec. 14. “[The candidate] ultimately felt it wasn’t the right opportunity at this time.”
While the council had narrowed the initial 18 applicants down to five and interviewed three after two withdrew their applications, it decided not to circle back to either of the remaining candidates. Consultant Don Gerrish of Eaton Peabody will continue to facilitate the search process. Hamilton noted that with several manager vacancies across the state the position is proving somewhat difficult to fill.
