New tech adds $635K to Mifflin County tax base | News, Sports, Jobs

ethompson@lewistownsentinel.com LEWISTOWN An additional $635,000 in revenue will be added to Mifflin County’s tax base thanks to new imagery technology available through the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency which brings property records up to date. Laura Simonetti, geographic information systems director for Mifflin County, explained during the Mifflin County Commissioners’ regular meeting that every resident’s property tax in the county has been updated and field verified. Simonetti said the updates were a result of what she referred to as “operation fairness,” an effort which she said started in 2016 to ensure that everyone is “taxed thoroughly and paying fairly” according to the property they have.

Parking Restrictions Aim To Curb Violence Happening Blocks From Findlay Market

Courtesy of the City of Cincinnati About two blocks away from Findlay Market, residents and nearby workers have been bystanders to gun violence – shootings, stray bullets and the resulting broken glass. Officials are hoping new parking restrictions could keep the area safer by making it harder for passersby to linger. City Council unanimously passed a residential parking permit requirement Wednesday for the intersection of Green and Republic streets and the nearby area. Councilman Greg Landsman said the effort came to fruition because police worked with Cornerstone Renter Equity and others in the community to come up with a plan to deter crime.
