Vanessa Hoene was seven months pregnant a year ago with her first child. But in April 2020, the pandemic was spreading in Wyoming.
Credit Vanessa Hoene During pregnancy, especially for first-time moms, which I am, you have no idea. Like, am I the right size? Am I growing? Am I eating the right nutrition? said Hoene last year, as she was getting ready to deliver her baby. Understandably, she was a bit more worried about it because of the pandemic.
A year later, Hoene, a water resources engineer based in Cody, is a new mom to her young son and a lot has changed. The one thing that still remains is the pandemic that is still continuing into 2021. And without a guidebook, millions of women who were expecting and had to give birth during this pandemic had to navigate foreign territories on their own, some with their loved ones.

The University of Wyoming Construction Management Program is now offering its first two scholarships.
The first is the Joseph and Patricia Grabowski Scholarship in Construction Management, established by Joe, a 1982 UW alumnus, and Patty Grabowski. The second, the Marcy Civil and Architectural Engineering Excellence Fund, was established by Dewey Marcy, a friend of UW and the personal representative for the Samuel J. Marcy Estate.
“These are the first two program scholarships dedicated to the new Construction Management Program at UW,” says Francois Jacobs, a UW associate professor of civil and architectural engineering in the Construction Management Program. “Students in the program will be eligible to receive the scholarships to help support their construction management academic journey at UW.”
