Body of Army officer who died in Srinagar brought to Doon | Dehradun News

Dehradun: The body of Lieutenant Colonel Sudeep Bhagat, who allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday in Srinagar (Kashmir), arrived in Doon on Thursday evening. The officer’s family members, currently residing in Dehradun’s Harrawala, said he was a happy person, and like every day called his wife and children at 8 am, barely hours before shooting himself. Bhagat’s body was found at an Army depot in Khonmoh area of Srinagar on Wednesday afternoon.The incident came to light after the Army officer s colleagues heard gunshots from the area and went to the depot where they found him in a pool of blood. His body was sent to Chandigarh after post-mortem. Bhagat’s younger brother Uttam Negi told TOI, “This has come as a big shock for us. We are at a loss to know what could have prompted my brother to take this step.”

Gairsain: Congress legislators, during the zero hour, raised the issue of the February 7 disaster in the Joshimath area of Chamoli district and called for more steps to prevent loss of lives and develop an early warning system. The opposition party also demanded better compensation and strengthening of telecom services in the border areas of Uttarakhand. Indira Hridayesh, leader of opposition, said that better planning could have saved the lives of many people. Cabinet minister and government spokesperson Madan Kaushik said a committee of experts has been formed to make recommendations and telecom companies are being provided with offers to set up mobile towers near the border areas.

45-yr-old kills self in Roorkee | Dehradun News

Roorkee: A 45-year-old man of Nepalese origin reportedly killed self late on Wednesday night at his residence in Dhanauri near Roorkee. The victim was identifed as Gautam Singh Kathait. According to reports, victim, a parent of two children originally from the Dhangadhi town of Kailali district in Nepal. He was employed with irrigation department at Dhanauri as Chawkidar (watchman) came to his residence at government staff quarter late on Wednesday night. In morning his wife saw him hanging from ceiling of a room of his residence. Victim s father Ram Singh had also retired as Chowkidar from same department in Dhanauri. Victim’s family alleged foul play behind the death. “We have sent body of victim after inquest proceeding to civil hospital in Roorkee for autopsy. Any suspicion behind the death would be revealed after postmortem report,” said Jagmohan Ramola, in-charge of Piran Kaliyar police station.

Uttarakhand gets all-women anti-terrorism commando squad | India News

DEHRADUN: Twenty-two women now form Uttarakhand’s first all-women elite commando force for anti-terrorist and counter-insurgency operations. On Tuesday, Uttarakhand Police formally inducted the all-women Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), ready for its first deployment at the Mahakumbh in Haridwar. “Uttarakhand is now the fourth state in the country to have an elite women commando force,” Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said at the induction ceremony at police lines here. The first all-women commando force was Delhi’s ATS SWAT team, inducted in 2018. Earlier this month, Karnataka started training its first batch of all-women Garuda commandos, the state’s own anti-terror force. “This will inspire other women to join the force and serve the country,” the CM added.
