Business For Youth s Sunflower Project helps community

OVER the past year the pandemic has devastated many people, causing heartbreak, loneliness and hardship among every day lives. However, a team of volunteers has done as much as it possibly could throughout the past 13 months to help others in need. Business for Youth in Newton-le-Willows has helped to support the community throughout this devastating crisis. Business For Youth From March 23, 2020 through to June 26 it launched the Sunflower Project, refusing no child a free packed lunch. In total, 33,805 packed lunches were delivered, providing every weekday for 14 weeks to children and some elderly in the area. At its peak it delivered 622 packed lunches to 280 houses per day, using four drivers a day, always with a smile, sometimes in silly dress up costume, creating much fun, growing, colouring and design competitions in the process.

St Helens to head to polls for 2021 Local Elections

There will be 17 seats on St Helens Council to be contested overall across 16 wards. Labour is seeking to keep a grip on power while opposition parties and independent candidates are aiming to make inroads into the majority. A total of 48 councillors make up the council, three in each ward but two seats are vacant – one in the Windle ward and one in Earlestown. Therefore, currently, there are 46 councillors with 34 Labour; four Liberal Democrats; three Conservatives; three independents and two Greens. Key issues in the campaign have included St Helens’ post-Covid recovery and the row over the Local Plan and release of green belt land for development.
