Circle K Europe has won the NACS European Convenience Retail Technology Award, recognizing the global retailer’s Pay by Plate payment technology used for fuel purchases. The award, sponsored by Gilbarco-Veeder Root, was presented on June 1 during the virtual NACS Convenience Summit Europe.
Circle K is the first fuel retailer to introduce Pay by Plate across Europe at scale, which allows customers to pay for fuel using their number (license) plate, offering a frictionless customer experience.

Circle K Fuel Customers Can Pay by License Plate
Starting today, the chain’s stores in Sweden offer the frictionless pump-side payment service.

OSLO, Norway Circle K gas stations in Sweden are now using AI technology that reads license plate numbers of vehicles at pumps on the forecourt and automatically pays for the fill-ups via customers’ linked Circle K Easy Fuel mobile app for a frictionless pump-side payment experience.
Quebec, Canada-based Alimentation Couche-Tard, owner of Circle K, dubbed the technology “Pay by Plate” and said it plans to roll it out across the wider Circle K network in the coming years after a successful pilot in select Circle K stores in Norway.
