We can officially say it. Lacrosse is back, Y’all!
It was a much slower first weekend of action than usual with only two games on the docket, but college lacrosse officially returned on Saturday. Bellarmine took down Mercer on in the first game of the season and just a few hours later we saw Denver best Utah.

The Denver Pioneers overcame missing 12 players, including Schuyler Blair, Alex Simmons, and Colin Squires, struggling heavily on the power play (1-for-8), and going 8-for-20 at the faceoff dot, to get hot in the second half and put away the visiting Utah Utes, 9-8, in their home opener.

2/7 vs Denver: The Tar Heels will open their season at home against the Denver Pioneers in a contests that has become one of the better early season meetings in recent years. Last season in Denver, North Carolina bested Denver 15-13 in a contest where they had to hold off a second-half Pioneer comeback.
3/11 & 4/10 vs/@ Virginia: One of the two ACC opponents that the Tar Heels will play twice this season is rival and defending (2019) Virginia. During the last full season, these two played each other twice and it was a one-goal win for the Cavaliers each time. Virginia won the regular season game 11-10 and ACC Tournament meeting 14-13. The Tar Heels haven’t beaten the Cavaliers since 2017.
