(Submitted photo) A new refrigeration unit is providing space to expand what is being offered to those using the Hubbard County Food Shelf. “We raised over $35,000 through grants and donations,” assistant food shelf director Denny Ulmer said. “We had some very generous donations after we had an article in the paper and were able to get some of the grant money available because of COVID.”

The city closed on the purchase of the historic armory and its annex on May 19 of last year and has a lease agreement with the Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation (MMCDC), which sublets the property to the Park Rapids Armory Arts and Event Center (PRAAEC) to operate the facility as a cultural venue.
