Middle Tennessee State University reported 41 larceny and theft crimes and 9 burglaries in 2020, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigationâs 2020 âCrime on Campusâ report that was recently released.
The annual report compiles data from colleges and universities across the state through the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System. The report says there was a total overall 33.5 percent decrease in the number of crimes reported from 2019 to 2020.
On average, reported numbers for larceny or theft make up 26.3 percent of all reported offenses, according to a news release from the TBI.
MTSU saw a decrease in reported thefts. In 2019, the university is listed as having 73 total âLarceny/Theftâ offenses. That number dropped to 41 in 2020 with 22 labelled as âTheft From Building,â six as âTheft from Motor Vehicleâ and one as âTheft from Coin Machine.â There were 12 additional offenses labelled as âTheft-All Other Larcen

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Friday released its annual Crime on Campus publication, detailing the volume and nature of crime on Tennessee’s college and university campuses.
The report compiles data submitted to TBI through the state’s Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is obvious throughout the 2020 statistics, as students, staff, and faculty spent – in most cases – less time on college and university campuses.
Among the report’s findings:
Crime reported by Tennessee’s colleges and universities decreased by 33.5 percent from 2019 to 2020 and decreased overall by 40.6 percent since 2017.
