Update: Shelby County Health Department Director Dr. Alisa Haushalter has resigned, according to an announcement made in a County Commission meeting.
Reports of wasted COVID vaccine are continuing to pile up in Shelby County, along with new allegations that some doses were stolen and a newly revealed incident in which children were apparently vaccinated.
The state’s ongoing investigation at the Shelby County Health Department has now found that several shots may have been stolen from a site early this month.
Tennessee’s health commissioner, Dr. Lisa Piercey, says Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris confirmed reports about the incidents Thursday, but they date back several weeks.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee After reports of children vaccinated, doses stolen and thousands of vaccines expired the head of the Shelby County Health Department has stepped down.
Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris announced Friday that Dr. Alisa Haushalter, the director of the Shelby County Health Department, resigned and is moving into retirement. This was announced in a special called county commission meeting.
“Reports of vaccines expiring in Shelby County were gut-wrenching to me,” said Mayor Lee Harris. “Worse to me was the information that was taken to the public about the size of the loss was not accurate.”
