Matt Nagy survives, but faces must-win 2021

Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images Coach Matt Nagy uses the same phrasing when discussing disasters. Wide receiver Javon Wims’ touchdown drop Sunday was a “learning tool.” A false start at the 1-yard line earlier this season was “a good learning moment for us.” Of the blowout loss at Lambeau Field in November, Nagy said: “We’ve got to learn from it, as coaches and as players.” So it was no surprise Wednesday to hear him use the same wording when describing another crippling disappointment: The Bears’ fall from 12-4 in his first year to back-to-back 8-8 seasons. “We gotta learn from what has happened in that Philadelphia Eagles [playoff] game in 2018 and what has happened in this Saints game in 2020,” he said. “That’s a challenge. And as a competitive person, for me as a head coach and a leader, from the players’ side, that part I’m excited about. Now that takes us into this upcoming offseason, which is huge. It’s gonna be really, really big

"What he’s brought to us and what he’s taught us everybody in our family here is second to none," Nagy said. "He’s sacrificed. His family’s sacrificed so much for him and now it’s time for him to sacrifice of them. He’s at total peace [with] that,"

Chicago Writer s Tweet Perfectly Sums Up Bears Press Conference

Bear fans finally heard from Halas Hall and it wasn t good.  It took 48 hours after the Bears season came to an end before any information about the future to be released. People were not excited. Then it was announced that the Bears brass would be addressing the media Wednesday morning at 10 AM. The press conference lasted 90 minutes, it seemed like 900. Tone-deaf would be a polite way to describe what happened. One thing that was abundantly clear after hearing George McCaskey and Ted Phillips talk was that winning isn t the most important thing to the Bears organization. It should be noted that by all accounts, George McCaskey is a great guy. I ve never heard anyone say anything but glowing things about him personally. He also seems like a wonderful man to work for. We would all love it if our bosses cared for us the way the McCaskeys care for their employees. It s one of the reasons the Bears family is so strong, it literally is a family.
