Tap water access in densely populated parts of Delhi is a strong predictor of the risk of contracting dengue, says a study that may lead to new strategies to control the transmission of the deadly virus in urban areas.
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by the bite of an infected female Aedes mosquito- mainly of the species Aedes aegypti and, to a lesser extent, Ae. albopictus. According to the experts, the dengue virus is among a growing number of mosquito-borne pathogens across the world that have adapted to spread in cities.

National Green Tribunal has said that various old buses lying abandonedat Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) depots in Delhi were breedinggrounds for mosquitoes and also led to a rise in dengue andchikungunya. The NGT also directed the DTC to form a task force to tackle the problem.
