CASH: The old courthouse AN extra cash handout has been approved to ensure Bury s former courthouse is redeveloped. The Bury Times reported last October how a loan of £3.95m had been agreed by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority for the Tenterden Street complex. Councillors sitting on the GMCA s local enterprise partnership panel have now been told that further due diligence has been carried out concerning the regeneration proposals. And now an additional £31,000 has been sought by Jubilee Way Estates, a venture established by Graham Cowand and Hyman Weiss, registered to Heaton House, in Bury Old Road, Crumpsall, and approved by the panel.
MYSTERY: Bury Society for Blind and Partially Sighted People A MYSTERY donor turned secret Santa after making a substantial donation to a Bury charity. Staff at Bury Society for Blind and Partially Sighted on Tenterden Street were amazed to discover someone had made the gift just before Christmas. The charity, which was founded in 1922, provides a variety of services which aim to enhance the quality of life for all visually impaired people within Bury. It wasn’t until 1994 that the Society became established with premises, staff, volunteers, a committee and trustees. CEO, Jill Logan said: Covid-19 has made everyone’s lives challenging this year, but Bury Society for Blind and Partially Sighted People has been working hard to support people living with the addition of sight loss
