$26B opioid settlement nearing in suit against manufacturers and distributers

(WHEC)  In a major, long-awaited announcement, attorneys general from more than a dozen states announced a historic proposed agreement with opioid manufacturers and distributors. McKesson Corporation, Cardinal Health, Amerisource Bergen and Johnson & Johnson are named. $26 billion is at stake in the global agreement and outlined in the agreement, New York State would receive up to $1.25 billion under previously announced settlements with the four companies. “What it will do is provide prevention, and education and abatement and beds to those organizations and hospitals who need it now more than ever,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said. 

Patient partnership falling to wayside in COVID-19 research rush

“Nothing about us without us” has become a common refrain over the past decade as patients and communities have pushed for a greater say in health care research and decision-making. But now some fear pandemic expediencies are eroding hard-won advances in patient partnership. COVID-19 had a “catastrophic” impact on patient engagement in health research, says Bertrand Lebouché, a clinician-researcher at McGill University Health Centre. Prior to the pandemic, funding bodies increasingly required investigators to involve patients throughout the research process from setting priorities to translating results into practice. “It gives an opportunity for the patient to become part of the solution,” says Lebouché.

Trillium Health offers free opioid overdose prevention, NARCAN training

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)  Trillium Health is taking steps to end opioid overdoses in our community.  Trillium is offering free virtual training sessions to the public on opioid overdose recognition, prevention, and reversal using NARCAN.  Training dates and times available are as follows:  July 6 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. July 7 at 10 a.m.  July 8 at 10 a.m  July 12 at 3 p.m.  July 13 at 3 p.m.  July 14 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. July 15 at 10 a.m.  July 19 at 3 p.m.  July 20 at 3 p.m. July 21 at 10 a.m.    July 22 at 10 a.m. and  6 p.m.  July 24 at 1 p.m.
