NC judge censured after hiring his friend, turning blind eye to harassment :: WRAL com

Updated December 19, 2020 9:43 a.m. EST By Travis Fain, WRAL statehouse reporter Raleigh, N.C. The state Supreme Court censured a judge on the state Court of Appeals this week, saying he hired his high school buddy, then turned a blind eye as the man belittled and sexually harassed law clerks in the office. Judge Hunter Murphy s conduct wasn t bad enough to warrant suspension or removal from the bench, the state Supreme Court said in an opinion posted Friday, but it did merit censure. Investigators from the state s Judicial Standards Commission heard from other employees that Ben Tuite, Murphy s assistant, repeatedly made profane and inappropriate comments, encouraged one employee to sabotage a former employee s career, lied, often didn t do his work and at one point got so angry that he slammed his hand down on a table hard enough to activate the attached panic alarm.

#STOPTHESTEAL refers to stealing their culture as much as the election

#STOPTHESTEAL refers to stealing their culture as much as the election. Published December 16, 2020 State Senator Bob Steinberg gives us insight into exactly how crazy the right has become. In an interview with WRAL, he told reporter Travis Fain that he believes in a broad, international conspiracy to steal the election from Donald Trump. He can offer no evidence of the scheme, but he’s so sure it occurred, that he believes the President should throw out constitutional protections to round up the plotters.  The interview is telling. Like most of the Trump-supporting, delusional right-wingers calling the election rigged, Steinberg lacks much self-awareness. “I’m not a conspiracy theory person. I don’t like them. I don’t like conspiracy theories at all. But something is going on here that’s bigger than meets the eye,” he says as he spouts baseless conspiracy theories without any evidence.

School choice advocate pitches $1,200 stipend for struggling students :: WRAL com

Updated December 15, 2020 6:47 p.m. EST By Travis Fain, WRAL statehouse reporter Raleigh, N.C. A former state lawmaker and long-time school choice advocate is pitching the General Assembly on a $1,200 grant for struggling students. The program, which would have a high price tag and need legislative approval, could be used to pay for tutors, textbooks, internet access and other supports. As written, the program could also fund tuition at a private school, though former Rep. Marcus Brandon said that s not the point to have students changing schools. Anything that can help them bring their grades back up to par, Brandon said Tuesday. This bill would probably benefit more public school kids.
