In the penultimate race of the 2020/2021 season, the Olympic silver medallist stood at the top of the podium after setting the best time in the second run. In second place, 0.47 seconds behind winner Lölling, Anna Fernstaedt (CZE) surprised with her best World Cup result and the first podium finish of a skeleton athlete from the Czech Republic.

MORITZ, Switzerland (AP) Tina Hermann of Germany won a World Cup skeleton race on the historic St. Moritz track Friday, and Katie Uhlaender posted the best finish of any U.S. sliding athlete so far this season. Hermann prevailed with Austria’s Janine Flock finishing second and Germany’s Jacqueline Loelling taking third. Hannah Neise of Germany was fourth, followed by Uhlaender the four-time Olympian who placed fifth. Americans did not compete in the first half of the World Cup skeleton, bobsled and luge seasons, remaining home in the U.S. because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic and issues with international travel. Kaillie Humphries was sixth in women’s bobsled last weekend, which had been the top U.S. result this winter before Uhlaender’s showing Friday.

Gassner earns maiden men s skeleton win on IBSF World Cup circuit Friday, 15 January 2021 Germany’s Alexander Gassner celebrated his maiden victory at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup leg in St Moritz. Gassner triumphed in the men’s skeleton event on a successful day for Germany in Switzerland, with world champion Tina Hermann winning the women’s competition. The German duo took advantage of the absence of European skeleton champions Elena Nikitina and Alexander Tretyakov, with the Russians having opted to skip the event to prepare for the World Championships. Latvian star Martins Dukurs led the men’s event after the opening run by clocking 1min 8.22sec, with Gassner 0.2 off the pace in second.

Friedrich aiming for double bobsleigh gold at IBSF World Cup in St Moritz Thursday, 14 January 2021 Germany s Francesco Friedrich will look to continue a strong run of form in the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup with the two-man and four-man bobsleigh events set for St Moritz in Switzerland this weekend. Events start tomorrow and are due to end on Sunday (January 17). Friedrich and his respective push athletes Alexander Schüller and Thorsten Margis, have won eight of the nine two-man events this season, the other won by Friedrich s closest rival this season - his compatriot, Johannes Lochner. Other contenders for the event include Switzerland s Michael Vogt and Latvia s Oskars Ķibermanis, the latter winning silver on three occasions so far this season.
