Joe Montana s QB GOAT case starts here. At the peak of his powers at age 33, the 49ers icon was on his own tier in 1989. His completion percentage (70.2), yards per attempt (9.1) and passer rating (112.4) look confusing when compared to his peers. Apex Jerry Rice (17 TDs), Roger Craig and John Taylor made 1989 the West Coast Offense s masterwork, despite Bill Walsh having retired after the 88 season. The defense ranked third, too. The 49ers went 14-2, losing by five total points, and obliterated the Vikings, Rams and Broncos by a 126-26 margin in the playoffs. George Seifert s debut team may be the NFL s best ever.

The NFL has failed Black coaches, and Eric Bieniemy is the face of the problem. But should he be?
Here is Bieniemy, coordinating the Chiefs’ explosive offense for Kansas City’s two Super Bowl runs, admired by players, objectively qualified to be a head coach. Nobody has hired him. He is Black. This is all true. But it is only part of the story.
This issue is complicated. Not complicated in the condescending sense, as a cover for poor behavior (
This looks bad, but it’s complicated).
It looks bad because it
is bad. It’s complicated in the sense that this is a serious problem with many facets, but we can’t see them all by focusing solely on Bieniemy.

Hello, John. Could you help us with the pros and cons of the 3-4 and the 4-3 defense? And also, is there a particular player physical profile that is needed for either scheme? Thanks.
Offensive and defensive schemes vary somewhat based on personnel and coordinator, so any discussion of pros and cons is by definition a bit vague. But vaguely speaking, a 3-4 utilizes three linemen and four linebackers – with the number of linebackers having the advantage of giving the offense more looks than a four-lineman, three-linebacker set. Four linebackers theoretically mean more blitz options. The 3-4 theoretically might not be as strong against the run as the 4-3 – unless it has a dominant nose tackle. A 4-3 because of four linemen is theoretically stronger against the run and more dependent on down linemen to rush the passer – as opposed to a 3-4 scheme, in which outside linebackers typically are the edge rushers. A couple of things to remember: the 3-4 and 4-3

If they were both available this year, and all college statistics and analysis remained the same: Andrew Luck or Trevor Lawrence No. 1?
If I were limited to what I knew about Luck and Lawrence after their college careers, I would probably select Luck. But that opinion is biased because I remember having a real feeling watching him at Stanford that he wouldn t miss. This was because I was impressed with Luck s ability to call games at the line of scrimmage and change plays when needed. I didn t have
quite the same impression watching Lawrence at Clemson. But that in no way means he can t do it; all reports are that his football intelligence and study habits are impeccable, which leads you to believe he can mentally excel at the position. You also would be tempted to lean toward Luck in your scenario because he played in the NFL at a high level for an extended period, so he is a known quantity. While Lawrence is the most enticing prospect since Luck, he remain
