SEATTLE (AP) The Seattle Seahawks hired Shane Waldron as their new offensive coordinator, the first time in his career he’ll be responsible for running an offense and calling plays.
Waldron’s hiring was announced Friday, more than two weeks after the Seahawks fired Brian Schottenheimer. Seattle set a franchise record for points scored last season but there were clear philosophical differences between Schottenheimer and coach Pete Carroll.
Waldron, 41, spent the past four seasons as the passing game coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams. Now he gets to run an offense for the first time with one of the top quarterbacks in the league in Russell Wilson at the controls.

With each NFL season that draws to a close, opportunities arise for coaches to take the next step in their careers by becoming head coaches.
Since the regular season ended, seven head coaching hires have been made, with each organization deciding to select a candidate with no prior NFL head coaching experience.
Here are the power rankings for all of the 2021 coaching hires.
7.) David Culley, Houston Texans
The Texans looked to the Baltimore Ravens to fill their coaching vacancy.
Culley is the fifth-oldest head coach in the NFL, and at age 65, the veteran assistant coach is the oldest first-time head coach ever.

ALLEN PARK The Detroit Lions have hired former Eagles special teams coordinator Dave Fipp to the same position.
Fipp spent the previous eight seasons in Philadelphia, winning a Super Bowl championship along the way. Fipp and Dan Campbell served on the same staff in Miami for two seasons while the new Lions coach was cutting his teeth coaching tight ends. Fipp, 46, replaces Brayden Coombs and Marquice Williams in Detroit. Coombs was fired after a rogue fake punt over the head of interim coach Darrell Bevell. Williams took over for the rest of the season, recently leaving Detroit for the special teams coordinator gig in Atlanta.
