WHEELING Hundreds of local families will be able to have a brighter Christmas this year as a result of the Bethlehem Apostolic Temple’s 30th annual Christmas basket giveaway.
According to the Rev. Darrell Cummings, senior pastor of the North Wheeling church, 943 people received groceries, clothes, toys and school supplies at the drive-through event held Saturday behind the North Wheeling Dream Center.
“We had over 200 cars that came through the line,” Cummings said, adding he was told the line of cars at one time extended along Main Street from the front of the Dream Center all the way to the car wash along River Road. “There were just lines and lines of cars. We had close to 200 kids come through to get toys.”

According to the Rev. Darrell Cummings, senior pastor of the North Wheeling church, 943 people received groceries, clothes, toys and school supplies, as a result of the drive-through event held behind the North Wheeling Dream Center.

The Rev. Darrell Cummings said cars started lining up at 6 a.m. Saturday in front of Bethlehem Temple’s North Wheeling Dream Center to receive groceries and for children to choose toys.
As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the line extended north on Rt. 2 to Northern Parkway.
The format was different this year to account for COVID-19 safety precautions patrons stayed in their cars to receive their food but Cummings said it remained successful.
“This is community,” he said.
“This is what a community is supposed to be. No man stands alone.”
Thousands were served through Saturday’s 30th annual event.

WHEELING Bethlehem Temple has ordered double the food in preparation for its 30th Annual Christmas Basket giveaway this Saturday.
There also will be toys for children, but to keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, only one child at a time will be permitted to enter the room where they will select their gifts from Santa, according to Rev. Darrell Cummings.

WHEELING Hundreds of essential workers in the Ohio Valley were honored with a meal Thursday as part of the annual “Honor Our Heroes” program, put together by the Bethlehem Apostolic Temple of Wheeling and Shiloh Apostolic Faith Assembly of Weirton.
As part of the celebration, between 200 and 300 front line workers in the Wheeling and Weirton areas received spaghetti meals from Undo’s Restaurants or personal pizzas from Domino’s Pizza.
