It’s with much joy that we chronicle all the good works the Rev. Darrell Cummings, pastor of Bethlehem Apostolic Temple in North Wheeling, does for his community.
Each year, he feeds the hungry and needy with food giveaways at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas; he and his staff and a team of volunteers and donors get kids ready for school with his back-to-school events; and the newly reopened North Wheeling Dream Center serves as a community hub for students to get help with everything from homework to internet access.
Cummings would be quick to deflect praise, instead giving credit to those in the community who help him. But today, Rev. Darrell, we simply say “Thank you.”

The Rev. Darrell Cummings said cars started lining up at 6 a.m. Saturday in front of Bethlehem Temple’s North Wheeling Dream Center to receive groceries and for children to choose toys.
As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the line extended north on Rt. 2 to Northern Parkway.
The format was different this year to account for COVID-19 safety precautions patrons stayed in their cars to receive their food but Cummings said it remained successful.
“This is community,” he said.
“This is what a community is supposed to be. No man stands alone.”
Thousands were served through Saturday’s 30th annual event.

WHEELING Bethlehem Temple has ordered double the food in preparation for its 30th Annual Christmas Basket giveaway this Saturday.
There also will be toys for children, but to keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, only one child at a time will be permitted to enter the room where they will select their gifts from Santa, according to Rev. Darrell Cummings.
