Claysburg man pleads to assault | News, Sports, Jobs

kstephens@altoonamirror.com HOLLIDAYSBURG A Claysburg man will be on probation for 14 years in exchange for guilty pleas to criminal charges filed in August 2018 when he was accused of sexually assaulting an ex-girlfriend in Greenfield Township. Kevin R. Weyandt, 48, recently entered guilty pleas in Blair County Court to charges of simple assault, strangulation, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, unlawful restraint and criminal trespassing, all graded as misdemeanors. Felony charges of rape, burglary, kidnapping, strangulation and sexual assault were among the charges dismissed. Based on the negotiated plea, Weyandt’s 14-year probationary period has started. It was imposed to follow county prison incarceration of five months and five days to a maximum of one year. Information rendered in Blair County Court indicated that Weyandt has completed his incarceration.

But the shortlist for this year’s Arias – the Audio & Radio Industry Awards – includes less high-profile programmes too. Also nominated in the comedy category are Kim Noble’s independently produced podcast Futile Attempts (At Surviving Tomorrow), BBC Radio Wales show The Musical Life Of… and Radio 4’s  multi-ethnic sketch show Sketchtopia, hosted by  Hardeep Singh Kohli. Noble’s ten-episode show, released last autumn, features hidden-mic recordings, philosophical narration and dream-like music as the comic grapples with life. It  was described as ‘morbidly compelling’ by The Guardian.

kstephens@altoonamirror.com HOLLIDAYSBURG Second-degree murder and related criminal charges against a 16-year-old Altoona male involved in a fatal shooting were moved Wednesday to Blair County Juvenile Court, prompting the district attorney’s office to immediately file notice of an appeal with the state Superior Court. President Judge Elizabeth Doyle, in a partial order made available to attorneys Wednesday, granted a petition filed on behalf of Damien Green of Altoona, seeking to have his criminal charges transferred out of adult court. Green is one of four teenagers charged in the Feb. 25, 2020, fatal shooting death of 15-year-old Devon Pfirsching of Altoona.

Judge OKs reckless driving charge against Tyrone man | News, Sports, Jobs

kstephens@altoonamirror.com HOLLIDAYSBURG A summary offense of reckless driving can be added to the traffic citations filed against a Tyrone man who allegedly engaged in a high-speed chase with a motorcyclist who crashed and died. The reckless driving charge against Brad Confer of Tyrone is expected to be addressed at Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller’s office where Confer has two pending summary traffic citations in connection with the June 1, 2019, incident. “In light of the judge’s ruling, the additional charge will be pursued,” Blair County District Attorney Pete Weeks said Monday. “But I’m not sure yet, procedurally, as to how that’s going to happen.”

Everett man gets prison for gun sales | News, Sports, Jobs

pray@altoonamirror.com An Everett man, described as a dependable co-worker, a volunteer in his community, and a devoted father and husband, was sentenced Wednesday to 40 months in prison for dealing in stolen firearms, firearm parts and ammunition that were supposed to have been destroyed at a West Virginia facility operated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Richard Adam Schreiber, 39, worked as a parts manager for a Warfordsburg company, had a family that includes a wife and two children, and in his younger years, was taught gun safety. But several years ago, he began to collect guns as a hobby and that hobby turned into an obsession.
