According to state data, Huron County had 26 new confirmed cases and one new death, with the county’s numbers now standing at 2,599 confirmed cases and 61 deaths. Tuscola County had 59 new confirmed cases and no new deaths, bringing the county’s totals to 4,029 confirmed cases and 137 deaths. Sanilac County saw 46 new confirmed cases and no new deaths, with the county’s numbers now at 3,086 confirmed cases and 82 deaths. Across the state, there were 6,892 new cases and 74 new deaths, of which 57 of them were identified during a vital records review.

That includes both the Ubly and Cass City school districts, both of which are going virtual due to quarantined students and a shortage of staff members. “We have about seven or eight kids who tested positive and about six to seven staff members also,” said Ubly School District Superintendent Joe Candella. “Because of that, we will be going virtual this week.”

Some schools have even made the decision to transition certain grades to temporary remote learning if exposed to an individual with coronavirus symptoms. On Jan. 27, Deckerville Community Schools notified parents of two school associated COVID-19 cases in a student or staff member. According to announcement, cleaning and disinfecting of the exposed locations has been completed. The school s COVID-19 dashboard, located on its website, has been updated regularly and remains the ideal location for Deckerville community members to seek school related virus news.
