TUSCOLA COUNTY Some of the recent business development in Tuscola County’s Indianfields Township is being challenged with legal action.
The Tuscola Area Airport Authority approved taking legal action against individuals and municipalities that are disregarding their lawful duties to obey the airport overlay and its accompanying county ordinance.
TAAA sent notice to Tuscola County leaders it intends to seek legal action.
The issue centers on SCMCCI, which is the agency Tuscola County Commissioners hired to handle building codes in the county, and with Indianfields Township allegedly allowing improper business development around the airport in violation of the county s airport ordinance.

During a recent meeting with the Tuscola County Commissioners, health department Director Ann Hepfer pleaded with the board to call for a state of emergency to continue virtual meetings. A county commissioner in an open meeting told Hepfer that all these COVID statistics are “propaganda” and because she asked for a state of emergency that it was a power trip for her.

About 19 years ago, the county hired South Central Michigan Construction Code Inspections of Athens when the decision was made to privatize building code inspections due to the expense to the county to operate that department.
County Controller-Administrator Clayette Zechmeister presented a rough draft of the RFP at the last county meeting. She asked for guidance from the commissioners on what they thought it should include.

TUSCOLA COUNTY Part of the last Tuscola County Commissioners meeting was spent setting the record straight on what is going on with the land the state promised the county.
At an earlier meeting, Commissioner Kim Vaughn was under the impression the state land bank had “reneged” on giving land along the Cass River the county, and reported that to those in attendance.
However, that was not the case, as Jim Tischler with the state land bank authority pointed out.
