June 19th Event to Promote Black-Owned Businesses

Justina Perry, founder of the online site Buy Black NB, is continuing her work to promote Black and minority-owned businesses on the SouthCoast. Her latest effort will take place on June 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the historic Rotch-Jones-Duff House on County Street in New Bedford. The Juneteenth celebration will include an outdoor vendors market to allow Black business owners a chance to meet the public and promote their products. New Bedford Mothers Take Center Stage [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY] With Mother s Day just days away, the United Way of Greater New Bedford is offering two new programs to help mothers and their young children. The Baby Bundle program is designed to help new mothers, providing a bundle of supplies to assist mothers and their newborns. The second program is called Bright by Text. It provides access to a variety of early-education programs and activities free of charge, offered by a large group of national and local providers. Teaching Leadership, Community in New Bedford [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY]

Groundwork Southcoast is a local non-profit organization working mainly in New Bedford and Fall River. It started in the summer of 2017, aiming to teach young people leadership skills and stewardship through a variety of programs, including growing food for the residents of the Sister Rose Homeless Shelter in New Bedford. Their programs are centered around the Urban Farm and Community Garden site at Riverside Park in the North End.
