London Middle School in Wheeling will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic Friday for anyone 12 and older, following federal regulatory approval of the Pfizer vaccine for those as young as 12.
Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 is partnering with Jewel-Osco to offer the two-shot Pfizer vaccine to students, their older siblings and family members, as well as family of district staff. The first dose will be administered Friday, May 21 a no-school Institute Day for students followed by the second shot Friday, June 11. The district will offer free shuttle bus service for any family that needs transportation to and from their appointment.

Three candidates supportive of Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 s handling of the pandemic and finances have taken an early lead in the election of three seats on the board of education.
Leading the pack with 146 of 148 precincts reporting were newcomer Curtis Bradley with 8,074 votes, the sole incumbent Anna Klimkowicz with 7,986 votes and Timothy McGowan with 7,430 votes all on a slate endorsed by the teachers union.

Getting students back into schools for full-time instruction is an ambitious goal school administrators have been struggling with since the start of the pandemic.
Several suburban superintendents weighed in this week on President Joe Biden s pledge to reopen a majority of K-8 schools for in-person learning five days a week by the end of his first 100 days in office, which is April 30. They say that while it s a good idea in theory, there are practical and logistical challenges.
Among the hurdles are parents hesitancy with sending children to school amid a pandemic, space constraints, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines requiring 6-foot social distancing in classrooms and monitoring of transmission rates.

With most school districts now better equipped for remote learning, traditional snow days might become a thing of the past.
We now have the tools necessary, in the hands of teachers and students, to pivot to remote learning at any time during the school year, said Lisa Hichens, superintendent of Batavia Unit District 101. We are practiced and more comfortable with this learning mode and prefer to keep the school calendar intact as much as possible.
Many suburban school districts currently allowing hybrid classes are bracing to switch to full remote learning amid predictions of an overnight winter storm.
