Rally against crime | Wyndham

By Alesha Capone Wyndham residents concerned about crime in the municipality attended a rally in Tarneit on Saturday, with many pledging to help fund the installation of CCTV cameras at crime hotspots. About 40 residents attended the rally which was organised by the Wyndham Safe Movement (WSM). The WSM comprises residents and former councillor Intaj Khan. Mr Khan said residents were particularly concerned about vehicle and knife crimes following a carjacking in Werribee last month and a stabbing at a Hoppers Crossing bottleshop on April 1. Crime Statistics Agency data, released last month shows there were 18,284 criminal offences reported to Wyndham police during 2020, up from 16,761 offences in 2019.

Teens arrested after burglary, car theft

By Alesha Capone Police have charged three teenagers following an alleged burglary and car theft at a Manor Lakes gym on Wednesday. The trio allegedly stole car keys from a Ballan Road gym locker area about 8.30am. The group allegedly went to steal a car from the nearby carpark, when they were confronted by a passer-by. One teen allegedly took off in the vehicle and two others fled on foot. Police located the vehicle on Brightvale Boulevard shortly after and arrested three girls, two 15-year-olds from Tarneit and a 14-year-old from Hoppers Crossing. All were charged with burglary and theft.

Date Time Echo Taskforce arrest man in Tarneit Detectives from the Echo Taskforce have arrested a man and executed a number of warrants in the Western suburbs of Melbourne today as part of an investigation into the Bros Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG). The five warrants were executed at residential premises in Altona, Werribee, Tarneit and Yarraville. Taskforce investigators seized mobile phones, fireworks, ammunition, a homemade handgun, a quantity of drugs and a significant quantity of cash. A 43-year-old man from Tarneit was arrested and is currently assisting police with their enquiries. It is expected he will be charged with drugs and firearm related offences.
