The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation has approved the installation of 70 pokies machines in Truganina, despite community opposition and a unanimous vote against the proposal by Wyndham City Council.
Alliance for Gambling Reform chief advocate Rev Tim Costello told Paul Kennedy the outcome of the application - made by the Werribee Football Club and supported by State Member for Werribee Tim Pallas - was "disappointing".
A VCGLR spokesperson said the commission considered the "position of the (Werribee Football) Club" and "concerns raised by Council and other community groups" in making its decision.
"After a two-day hearing last month, the Commission determined that the application on balance would have no net detriment to the well-being of the community of the City of Wyndham," the spokesperson said.
