Joel Wood s daughter described the devastating effects her father s murder has had on her family before the man convicted of killing him was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday.

Farrah Wood said she was woken by a pounding at the door between 3 and 4 a.m. on Aug. 24, 2018. When she heard it was members of the Port Huron Police Department, she was afraid they would say her father, a lieutenant with the department, died of a heart attack or other illness.

Leading up to the Aug. 24, 2018 shooting, Reifert said she did not tell Bauman about her relationship with Port Huron Police Lt. Joel Wood. Why didn t you tell him that you were seeing someone else? St. Clair County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Keyes asked. I would have been dead before August if I did, Reifert said.
Bauman is accused of killing Wood and injuring Reifert, and her neighbor, Tim Fuester. in Clyde Township.
Reifert and Bauman married in October 2013. Reifert said in 2015, Bauman became angry because she refused to follow his instructions. He punched the door, threw pieces of furniture down the stairs and pushed her to the ground.
