When it comes to tipping back a drink – or five – Albany County ranks as the state’s booziest according to figures compiled by the State of Wyoming’s Economic Analysis Division.
According to the division’s annual report “Wyoming and County Profiles,” 22.9% of the adults 21 and older in Albany County, home to the University of Wyoming in Laramie, reported having five drinks or more on one occasion at least once in the past 30 days, the highest percentage in the state.
The figure was well above the statewide average of 17.7%. Big Horn County, conversely, had the lowest number of people consuming five drinks at 12.5%.

Get a shot, win a prize.
Thatâs the basic premise of the Teton County Health Departmentâs âShots for Swagâ campaign. Director Jodie Pond announced the upcoming prizes-for-vaccines push during Fridayâs community update.
âWeâre going to encourage those that havenât been vaccinated to participate in our campaign and sign up for the drawings for great prizes,â she said.
Donât worry if you already were vaccinated; you can enter, too. The push is meant to reach the Health Departmentâs new goal of vaccinating 80% of Teton County residents by the Fourth of July.
Though epidemiologists donât truly know the percentage of protection needed for herd immunity from COVID-19, most estimates fall between 70% and 90%, so Pond is taking the average. The community is well on its way, with 61% of residents fully vaccinated, but the pace has been slowing.

Teton county, Wyoming, is at the vanguard of America’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign – but it isn’t celebrating.
The county has vaccinated far more people proportionally than in most of America – 39% – compared to less than a quarter nationally. Local authorities are concerned they may have hit a saturation point. Vast, rural and conservative Wyoming is one of the most vaccine hesitant places in the nation, and fewer people are signing up for vaccine clinics. Similar patterns are emerging across the US.
Local authorities now worry the rare potential side effects of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine – so infrequent a person is twice as likely to be struck by lightning – could confirm the worries of some already hesitant to get vaccinated.
