For families who have a loved one in the hospital, many medical centers are reluctant to allow family members, a support person, or personal care attendants to visit a patient during their stay. This is understandable particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With that said, Stavros Center for Independent Living believes communication is critical when serving people with disabilities who are receiving medical care. It is vital these patient’s needs are accurately translated to hospital staff whether it’s a nurse, an aide, an anesthesiologist, or a doctor.
