A Timaru man who breached a protection order and later attempted to flee from police has been sentenced to intensive supervision and community work. Alexander Michael Brown, 26, appeared before Judge Joanna Maze for sentencing at the Timaru District Court on Wednesday. He had previously pleaded guilty to one charge of escaping from police custody, one charge of contravening a protection order and one charge of breach of post-detention conditions. According to the police summary of facts, the offending occurred between June 23 and 26.

A 52-year-old North Otago man who gagged a woman with his underwear before sexually assaulting her was jailed for three and a half years when he appeared in the Oamaru District Court on Wednesday.
Pierre Coster, of Totara, had been convicted in the Timaru District Court on June 2 on charges of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, assault on a female and breach of a protection order.

Amy June Knight was sentenced to home detention when she appeared in the Timaru District Court on Friday.
A Timaru woman who gave her son cannabis for his birthday and offered to supply methamphetamine to others on multiple occasions has been sentenced. Amy June Knight, 39, appeared before Judge Joanna Maze at the Timaru District Court on Friday. She had previously pleaded guilty to charges of offers to supply methamphetamine, supplying methamphetamine, unlawfully possessing explosives and supplying cannabis to a person under 18 years. According to the summary of facts, the offending took place between April and November, 2020. “On April 3, the defendant supplied $50 worth of cannabis to her son who had turned 16 years old,” the summary of facts says.
A man has been found not guilty on charges of assaulting a child and using of an item as a weapon after the District Court judge found differences in the evidence presented.

A Timaru man has been ordered to pay $5400 after admitting one charge of ill-treatment of an animal and one charge of reckless ill-treatment of an animal after animal welfare officers found a severely emaciated cow and a pig on his property in such poor condition they had to be euthanised. Magnus Valdimar Karlsson, 56, was sentenced on the two charges when he appeared in the Timaru District Court on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty in April. Ministry for Primary Industries animal welfare inspectors visited Karlsson’s property on August 26, 2019.
