A forensic financial investigation of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation Financial Corporation is underway after irregularities were discovered during a year-end audit.
In a news release, SON FC’s accountant and auditor (BDO of Owen Sound) informed President Jonathan Araujo Redbird that the audit could not be completed due to incomplete financial reporting.
Redbird has authorized an independent third-party investigation into the corporation’s financial records.
Both the SON Joint Council and FC are retained the services of Zysman Forensic Accounting to be the lead in the investigation.
The matter is also being investigated by Neyaashiinigmiing First Nation Police and the Ontario Provincial Police.

Enter Jonathon Araujo Redbird and Christina Tachtampa. The pair run Redbird Circle Inc., which partners with post-secondary schools to deliver entrepreneurship programming that incorporates traditional Indigenous knowledge and values, and they have a plan to help Indigenous Peoples in Canada realize their business dreams.
Their latest partner is the University of Toronto Mississauga. Working with the campus’s ICUBE entrepreneurship hub, Redbird and Tachtampa are launching the Indigenous Entrepreneurship Program.
