Bombay HC allows Jain temples to deliver food through volunteers

Bombay HC denies permission for mass prayers at Mumbai mosques during Ramadan amid COVID-19 surge

Source: PTI Mumbai: The Bombay High Court refused permission to a city-based trust to allow people to offer Namaz at its mosque in south Mumbai during the Ramadan period, saying the COVID-19 situation was serious and critical and the safety of citizens was more important. A vacation bench of Justices R D Dhanuka and V G Bisht noted that the Maharashtra government found it expedient to impose restrictions to break the chain of transmission of the coronavirus. The right to celebrate or follow a religious practice is important, but what is more paramount and of importance is public order and the safety of citizens, the court said.

No One Should Allege Bias, All Religious Places Should Remain Closed - Maharashtra Govt Tells Bombay High Court In Jain Trust s Petition

Share This - x A day after the Bombay High Court refused a city mosque to open up for Ramadan prayers, the Maharashtra Government opposed a petition by two Jain trusts seeking permission for devotees to collect pious boiled food from the trust s premises during the nine-day-long Ayambil fast. The State cited its April 13 circular, directing all religious places to remain closed for outsiders for the safety of citizens, due to the surge in the Covid-19 cases in the State. It informed the court that devotees may congregate for food collection. Yesterday the Court refused the mosque to open. There should not be bias alleged on the part of the State. Our stand is clear, all religious places should remain closed.
