Hannibal Bar-B-Q Festival returns with more family fun

HANNIBAL — The Hannibal Bar-B-Q Festival is set to return to Heartland Field at 4015 Market Street this weekend, with a variety of local barbecue offerings, colorful Jeeps on hand and live music ready for all ages to have a good time. Mayor James Hark said every hotel is almost at capacity in town, and he said a new addition this year is the Hannibal Trolley Co. shuttling festival participants to and from downtown Hannibal. Event organizer Jason Krigbaum acknowledged it took hard work to get everything together, but he was very excited, and he felt people would be ready to get together again for the event’s second year. For 2021, Hark said each participant gets to cast the vote for winning teams — many of whom are from America’s Hometown.

MoDOT informing public about upcoming bridge project in Hannibal

HANNIBAL — It will be over a year before the replacement of the Mo. 79 viaduct in Hannibal will begin. The Missouri Department of Transportation has already begun the process of notifying the community about what the project will entail. “When we started this (informational) process about a year ago we actually had some meetings with first responders and different groups because we know with a replacement project like this there will be an impact so we have started working on that,” said Brian Untiedt, central area engineer for MoDOT’s Northeast District, during the July 6 meeting of the Hannibal City Council at city hall.

Yes, Hannibal streets are terrible Here s why

Yes, Hannibal streets are terrible. Here’s why. Driving around Hannibal this week, it is hard to know where the street stops and the sidewalks start. The hard snowpack is sealed with ice, and as the saying goes, it’s slicker than snot in the city. The state of the city’s streets is complicated by Hannibal’s many hills. Some people are stranded. Residents are taking to social media with some pretty harsh words. It happens with every snowfall, and the frustration is understandable. People need to get to work. However, it’s also understandable why the Hannibal Street Department is fighting a battle it just can’t win.
