Seminole man sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing boy

A U.S. district judge on Thursday sentenced to life in prison a 56-year-old Seminole man who admitted to sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy for about three years in Texas, New Mexico and Alabama. Michael Don Billups pleaded guilty in January to a federal charge of interstate transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, which carries a punishment of up to life in prison. U.S. District Judge James Wes Hendrix handed Billups the maximum sentence.  “Mr. Billups committed heinous acts of sexual abuse against the most vulnerable in our society,” said U.S Attorney Erin Nealy Cox in a statement. “While no prison term can undo the pain and suffering Mr. Billups has caused, today’s life sentence sends a strong message that child sexual exploitation will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
