EDMONTON - An aggressive style and timely goaltending paid off for the Calgary Flames on Thursday night. The effort also improved their chances of catching Montreal for the final playoff spot in the North Division.
Elias Lindholm scored twice and Dillon Dube added an insurance goal in the third period as the Flames beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 at Rogers Place.

Jesse Puljujarvi, 5. He and Kahun were bumped off the top line in the third, as coach Dave Tippett tried new lines to fire up the squad. He had played reasonably well up until then and helped manufacture a dangerous Kulikov chance.
Dominik Kahun, 5. He almost scored in the first off a fast-moving 3-on-2 rush, when Puljujarvi broke out fast, then McDavid set him up for a 5-alarm chance. Not much else to show for his night, though he hustled hard.

EDMONTON The old standard tells us that Father Time is undefeated. But on a team where 39-year-old Mike Smith is having a career season, you can forgive James Neal for wondering if that old cliché applied to everyone, or just to him?

EDMONTON They talk about how the recipe for a good team is when it can win games even when it plays poorly.
Then there are the games where you only get one of those two menu items. Like on Thursday, when the Edmonton Oilers had the “playing poorly” part down, but despite hanging around, could not find a way to come up with a win.
The Oilers left their emotions in Winnipeg and their hands somewhere over Swift Current, then came home to face a Calgary Flames club that had been in town longer than Edmonton had. The Flames won 3-1, and were the better team by some margin.
