Defenders of Chinatown are sounding the alarm after much of the neighbourhood’s most historic block was sold to a developer with a reputation for renovictions.
The collaborative series “Resilience” continues Saturday, April 24, with a presentation of the Library’s first-ever virtual Community Conference. The conference is aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of climate change and what scientists are doing to solve this complex problem. It will be held from 11 AM to 2:15 PM via videoconference; please register at newcanaanlibrary.org.
Leading the conference and offering their unique perspectives are three top professionals in their respective areas of expertise: Waleed Abdalati, Director of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado, Boulder (CU-Boulder), and professor in CU-Boulder’s Geography Department, Colonel Jason Kelly, Commander, South Atlantic Division, of the US Army Corps of Engineers, and James O’Donnell, physical oceanographer, professor, and Executive Director of CIRCA (Connecticut Institute for Resilience and Climate Adaptation).

Local band brings back ‘The King of the Jukebox’ with new recordings

METRO DETROIT He’s not nearly as well known today, but singer/songwriter/saxophonist/band leader Louis Jordan was once one of the biggest music stars in America.
The RJ Spangler Band is trying to make sure audiences don’t forget this groundbreaking artist. Besides continuing to play Jordan’s songs at live shows, the band is now releasing “The RJ Spangler Band Live at the Scarab Club Series: A Tribute to Louis Jordan,” a CD that includes some of Jordan’s biggest hits.
Man accused of killing mother over weekend
A 50-year-old man is suspected of killing his mother over the weekend.
On Saturday, April 17, Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Officers were called out near Lake Corpus Christi for a crash. Upon arrival, officers found a woman s body in the vehicle, Texas DPS Sgt. Nathan Brandley said.
A man was also in the vehicle. James O Donnell, 50, was arrested and booked into the Nueces County Jail.
O Donnell is charged with murder and violation of parole. His bond is set at $900,000.
According to an arrest report, O Donnell confessed to killing his mother, 83-year-old Omayra O Donnell, at her home in Corpus Christi.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â A Corpus Christi man is behind bars accused of killing his mother.
James O Donnell, 50, has been charged with murder. He s in the Nueces County Jail under bonds totaling $900,000.
O Donnell was arrested over the weekend in Live Oak County.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials say O Donnell s vehicle was parked near some brush along the side of a road near Lake Corpus Christi. A passerby thought the vehicle had crashed and called 911.
