Syracuse murder suspect barred from own court appearance over smuggled cell phone
Updated Mar 09, 2021;
Syracuse, NY James Everson was finally supposed to find out the date for his murder trial on Tuesday, a year after the pandemic canceled his original day in court.
Both Everson and the fired worker, Shannon Roach, now each face prison contraband charges, prosecutors said. Roach is accused of sneaking in a cell phone to Everson at the jail.
In explaining Everson’s absence from his own court date, County Court Judge Thomas J. Miller first said only that there were “security concerns” involving Everson. He later confirmed that they were related to the contraband incident.
