Daily Double! Golden Hawks Take Twin Titles at Eddyville

Photo Courtesy of Chris Tyler The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls track teams left Eddyville-Blakesburg’s state qualifier meet as champions Thursday. The Golden Hawk girls won the team championship with a score of 177, beating second place Williamsburg with 143. Mid-Prairie was dominant, automatically qualifying athletes in 13 different events, multiple qualifiers in three different events and winning six event titles. One-two finishes on the night for Mid-Prairie included the 800 with Danielle Hostetler the champ in 2:21.85 and Mitzi Evans second, the 1500 with Hostetler the champ in 4:58.96 and Sydney Yoder second and the 3000 with Hostetler taking her third gold in 11:18.75 and Yoder again second. Other titles included Mitzi Evans winning the 400 in 59.31, the sprint medley team of Maddie Edgington, Alyssa McDowell, Amber Swart and Mitzi Evans in 1:49.78 and the distance medley of Edgington, Tabitha Evans, Swart and Hostetler in 4:20.85. Hawks In Eddyville To Secure State Bids

The Mid-Prairie boys and girls track teams make the trip to Eddyville-Blakesburg High School tonight for their class 2A state qualifier meet. The Hawks were last in action a week ago at the River Valley Conference Championship meet in Anamosa. The Mid-Prairie girls were crowned River Valley Champions with their total score of 136, beating second place Northeast Goose Lake by 46. The Golden Hawks got points from 17 of 19 competing events and brought home gold in six different events. Mitzi Evans took the title in the 800, Sydney Yoder in the 1500, Danielle Hostetler in the 3000, Tori Boyse in the shot put, Maddie Edgington, Amara Jones, Alyssa McDowell and Amber Swart in the 4×200 and Edgington, Swart, Evans and Hostetler in the distance medley.

Demons and Golden Hawk Track Set for Mount Pleasant Meet

The first coed meet of the 2021 track season is tonight for the Washington and Mid-Prairie track teams when they make a trip to Mount Pleasant. The Washington boys are coming off of a West Burlington meet on Monday where Lance Sobaski won a pair of events in the 1600m and 800m while Elijah Morris was the fastest runner in the 400m dash. The Demon girls opened the season in the same meet and Grace Voss led them with a title in the 800m and fourth in the high jump. The Mid-Prairie boys competed in Washington last week and placed second in their division in large part to five event champions. Thaddeus Shetler took home the top spot in the 3200m and 800m run, Clarke Latchem in the 110m hurdles, Jamie Stutzman in the 1600m, and the distance medley relay team. This will be the first competition of the season for the Golden Hawk girls.
