The Mid-Prairie boys and girls track teams make the trip to Eddyville-Blakesburg High School tonight for their class 2A state qualifier meet. The Hawks were last in action a week ago at the River Valley Conference Championship meet in Anamosa. The Mid-Prairie girls were crowned River Valley Champions with their total score of 136, beating second place Northeast Goose Lake by 46. The Golden Hawks got points from 17 of 19 competing events and brought home gold in six different events. Mitzi Evans took the title in the 800, Sydney Yoder in the 1500, Danielle Hostetler in the 3000, Tori Boyse in the shot put, Maddie Edgington, Amara Jones, Alyssa McDowell and Amber Swart in the 4×200 and Edgington, Swart, Evans and Hostetler in the distance medley.
The Mid-Prairie boys track and field team will be in Anamosa Tuesday for their next meet. The Hawks had both Drake and a meet at Newton last week. Cain Brown represented Mid-Prairie in Des Moines. The sophomore was fourth in the high jump competition, clearing 6’3″. As a team, the Golden Hawks last competed Friday at Newton where they placed fifth of 11 teams with 73 points as Thaddeus Shetler won the 1600 in 4:40.49. Other top finishes included Nathan Quinby runner-up in the 100, second for the 4×800 team, third place for Clarke Latcham in the 400 hurdles and third for the 4×400 team. Mid-Prairie is in Anamosa tonight with Central DeWitt, Easton Valley, Independence, Iowa City Liberty, Lisbon, Monticello, Mount Vernon, West Liberty and the Blue Raiders. Action starts tonight at 4:30 and continues into the evening in Anamosa.
It was a busy week for the Mid-Prairie girls and boys track teams. After spending time in the state capital for the Drake Relays, Mid-Prairie ended the week by having the girls host their home meet on Thursday and sending the boys to Newton Friday. At the girls home meet, the Golden Hawks impressed the home crowd, taking the team championship with 154 points. Solon was second with 124.5 points. The Hawks had eight championship events on the night. Phoebe Shetler won the championship in the 3000 with a time of 11:30.16 with Abby Fleming second. Behla Schmidt led a Mid-Prairie 1-2-3 in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.26 seconds. Amara Jones was second and Sidney Davis third. Maddie Edgington took the 200 in 26.93 seconds. Sydney Yoder won the 1500 in 5:14.92 with Ana Fleming third. Madeline Schrader won gold in long jump clearing 15’3″. Mid-Prairie had three championship relays winning the shuttle hurdle in 1:15.47, distance medley in 4:33.23 and 4×100 in 51.76 seconds. Other to
