Speaking last week, Arbuckle said he floated the idea as part of his failed campaign for mayor after tenants from several council flats invited him to hear their maintenance issues. “To me, it was quite logical to have tenants willing to represent their complexes sitting on that sub-committee, hearing what was happening and raising their issues.” Minutes from the meeting show his request was recorded as an appeal for tenant representation on the Marlborough Housing Group, not the housing for seniors sub-committee. Arbuckle said the minutes should have said ‘sub-committee’.

Councillor Jamie Arbuckle promised to appoint a tenant to the council’s housing for seniors sub-committee if elected mayor of Marlborough, days after floating the idea at a council meeting.
But before any new classrooms were built, or architect renderings completed, parents on the school run last week wanted parking to be a priority for the project. Marlborough Girls’ College principal Mary-Jeanne Lynch said the “master planning” phase of the project allowed for ongoing discussion about how students could safely get to school.

Ioree McKenzie says parents often came to school pick-up early, so they could get a park. “The school started in 1963, so at the time, the school was a lot smaller and there weren’t as many cars around, there wasn’t as much traffic and certainly students didn’t have cars,” Lynch said.
But a report prepared for a budget meeting last week said the repair work had not been as effective as hoped, with significant water loss occurring and further investigation into the cause of the leak was still required. Marlborough District Council property and community facilities manager Jamie Lyall raised the issue of the pool at the meeting last week.

The 22.8-metre adult pool had a “substantial crack” repaired at the beginning of the 2020/2021 season, but the pool was still leaking. “We put some budgets in the paper, but they re tentative, because there needs to be a lot more work done on finances there,” Lyall said.
