Zane Trace Elementary School resumes kindergarten readiness program

View Comments KINNIKINNICK As custodians wax the floors of Zane Trace Elementary School, playful laughter echoes throughout the otherwise empty halls. For four weeks, children will enter the school as they prepare for kindergarten and the upcoming year. The last time Zane Trace offered the Success by 6 kindergarten readiness program was the summer of 2019, and elementary school principal Susan Congrove said the absence of the initiative has been noticeable.  It really showed on our fall screening, she remarked. This program makes all the difference. In 2016, nearly 60% of students who showed up to school were not ready to succeed in kindergarten, according to the Ohio Department of Education. In response, the United Way launched the Success by 6 initiative to prepare children. Since then, the Ross County chapter has worked to provide grant funding to public schools in the area.

Zane Trace FFA Completes Blankets for Babies Service Project

Jun 14, 2021 What do you get when you combine 72 yards of fleece fabric, 8 pairs of scissors and 31 Zane Trace FFA Members? The answer is 24 completed no-sew blankets for patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus! Members of the Zane Trace FFA volunteered their time outside of class during the month of May to complete the blankets. Hallee Scott, who recently served as the Chapter president, was the chair of the project and helped coordinate the purchasing of materials, setup of the work area and the instruction on how to assemble the blankets. The project was funded using proceeds raised during the chapter’s annual Sausage Breakfast which was held in February.
