O.H. Ivie Among Best Lakes for Monster Bass in 2021   ATHENS, TX – The 2021 Toyota ShareLunker collection season will go in the books as one of the best in the history of the program. Anglers landed 23 ShareLunkers at 10 different lakes across the state, the most during a January through March timespan since the 1995 season which produced 27. Five new lake records were established, four lakes made their mark on the program with a first ever entry, and milestone ShareLunker 600 was caught in this year’s group. “This Toyota ShareLunker collection season was simply historic in so many ways, we live for seasons like this,” said Tom Lang, Director of the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center. “We’re grateful that so many anglers caught their fish of a lifetime this season and then decided to share their lunker with us so we can make more of these bigger better bass for future generations of anglers.”

Hewitt-Trussville High School student starts petition to have Senior Awards Day

By Erica Thomas, managing editor TRUSSVILLE A Hewitt-Trussville High School senior started a petition after learning the school would not have a traditional Senior Awards Day. Instead, the school will post information online to showcase senior achievements. Mercy Powers hopes her petition will gain enough attention to allow the powers that be make a change. “This tough year has been a toll on many, especially seniors,” she said on the online petition. “We deserve to be awarded, we deserve to be recognized in person. All we want in our last few months of being a senior is some normalcy. No one wants their last few memories at HTHS to be virtual.”

Alex Derencz, the new public relations liaison for Hoover City Schools, attends the National Signing Day ceremony at Spain Park High School on Feb. 3. Alex Derencz has been telling stories as a professional journalist for more than five years, and now he’s ready to share stories about Hoover City Schools with the rest of the world. Derencz, 28, is the new public relations coordinator for Hoover City Schools, replacing Jason Gaston, who moved to the same role for Trussville City Schools in January. Derencz said he highly enjoyed working on education stories as a journalist, especially after COVID-19 hit and shut down in-person instruction across the state. When that happened, educators were forced to reinvent how they do their jobs in about 48 hours.

Hoover City Schools Jason Gaston named Trussville City School s new Public Relations Supervisor

From The Tribune staff reports TRUSSVILLE Trussville City Schools is hoping to improve communications with the public with a newly hired Public Relations Supervisor. TCS announced the hiring of Jason Gaston during its Board of Education work session on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, and the board voted to employ Gaston during its regular meeting. During the work session, Gaston said he is excited to work for a growing system and he hopes to build relationships within the community. Gaston has a Master of Science in Strategic Communication, a degree he earned from Troy University. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Freed-Hardeman University. In addition, he is accredited in Public Relations through the Universal Accreditation Board with APR Certification.
