DES MOINES, Iowa A person is dead after being hit by a garbage truck along the 10400 block of NE University Avenue Tuesday morning, according to the Polk County Sheriff s Office.
Deputies arrived at the scene along NE University Ave, also part of Highway 163, around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning for a person who had entered the westbound lanes of traffic from the north.
The pedestrian struck by the Dumpster Roll-off Truck died at the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured.
According to the sheriff s office, witnesses saw the victim walk out of the north ditch of Hwy 163 before they were struck by the side of the Aspen truck.

DESOTO, Texas DeSoto police said a suspect who is accused of killing a man and injuring a woman during a carjacking earlier this month has been arrested in Arizona.
According to DeSoto police, 19-year-old Evan McMaryion shot and killed 34-year-old Randall Thornhill and injured 29-year-old Heather French on May 15 in the 300 block of South Elerson Road.
Detectives said during their investigation, they were able to obtain surveillance footage from the public which helped them track down McMaryion.
DeSoto detectives then traveled to Arizona, where McMaryion was already in custody on a different charge, authorities said. McMaryion will be extradited back to Texas and faces a capital murder charge in the death of Thornhill, according to DeSoto police.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. A 67-year-old man from West Manchester Township is dead following a crash in North Codorus Township on May 19.
Around 3 p.m. yesterday, the York County Coroner s Office was dispatched to the site of a fatal crash in the area of Smith Hill Road and West College Avenue.
The man was driving a 2007 Toyota Highlander and was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and traveling eastbound on West College Avenue when he crossed over into the opposing lane of traffic. The driver crossed the entire westbound lane, went up an embankment, rolled over several times, and hit a tree before coming to rest. The driver died at the scene and was the only person in the vehicle.
