With St. Paul’s garbage service set to expire on Sept. 30, the city is seeking an 18-month extension to continue working with its current haulers. Five private haulers — Waste Management, Aspen Waste Systems, Gene’s Disposal, Highland Sanitation and Republic Services — have serviced 65,800 one-to-four unit residential properties in St. Paul for nearly five years as part of its collection .
Following a reduction of county-issued licenses due to company sales, an Olmsted County ordinance change paved the way for more competition in curbside pickup.

(Polk County, IA) A pedestrian was hit and killed by a dumpster truck this (Tuesday) morning near Pleasant Hill. The Polk County Sheriff s Office says it happened around 10 o clock in the 10400 block of East University Avenue. Witnesses say the person walked out of a north ditch and was hit by the side of the truck. There are no sidewalks or crosswalks in the area.
The Polk County Sheriff s Office says a dumpster roller truck belonging to Aspen Waste Systems was traveling westbound in the far-right lane when the pedestrian walked into traffic and was hit and killed.
