Jesse Marohn, 130-pounder senior on the Warrior wrestling team, had never been to state and wasn t even ranked in the top 10 at his weight. But he stunned the experts, his competition, his coaches and himself. He won Section 8, made it to the state 3A finals, and won 5-4 to take Brainerd s fourth championship ever, and first in 17 years.
30 years ago (1991)
The city council, which had eliminated salaries for Public Utility Commission members two years ago, has reinstated them. PUC members will receive $175 per month plus insurance benefits, and the president an added $25. City council members receive $300 a month, with an added $50 for committee chairs and the president.

Brainerd wrestling coach Bob Brakke growled after the last Warrior match was over in the Paul Bunyan Invitational. Brainerd had four wrestlers in the finals, but only two won titles. Vince Sellnow won at 103 and Jesse Marohn at 130. Both the Pickar brothers, Dusty at 135 and Andy at 140, suffered upset losses.
