NEARLY 25 per cent of Barrow s population have now received the Covid-19 vaccination. Barrow and Millom Primary Care Network has announced that nearly a quarter of the population have been vaccinated after a joint effort by nine GP practices. A spokesman said: We are all working with the same criteria. We are currently inviting patients in cohort four, on an age priority basis, based on vaccine delivery. We hope to finish vaccinating all people in this cohort within the next two weeks. Please do not call your practice; we will invite you either through a text message or a phone call (remember the NHS never asks for your bank details).

Mass vaccination centre to open in Furness A MASS vaccination site is due to open in Furness. The hub at GSK in Ulverston will open next week , according to an update shared by a doctor. Dr Gerry Murray said by Friday 20 per cent of eligible people in the primary care network that serves Ulverston, Dalton, Askam, Kirkby and Broughton will have been vaccinated, above the national average of 10 per cent. The doctor, of Dr Murray and Partners in Ulverston, said in an update shared on social media: It has been an amazing couple of weeks and we will have vaccinated 4400 patients by Friday, most of those over 70, the clinically vulnerable, care workers and care home residents.

Care home staff step up for the community

Staff at Hambleton Grange partnered with the Community Works Thirsk charity to create the essential goods packages. The contributions from the home will go some way to helping ensure that families and older people do not go without during lockdown. Residents at the care home helped staff organise stock and pack bags ready to be delivered around the community. Resident, Gerry Murray, who has lived at Hambleton Grange since December 2018, said: I think it is excellent that our team wanted to be involved in helping out the community at such an unprecedented time. It is a true testament to their commitment to caring and nurturing for the people around them.
