Taking up the role is Kevin Caslin, a native of Roscommon, from Hillstreet which is just over the road from Elphin, who has been working for Dawn Meats in Ballyhaunis for the past 10 years. Confirming the new appointment to Agriland, outgoing mart manager of Elphin Mart, Gerry Connellan said: “The rumours are true, I’m going to be hanging up my boots shortly. “Kevin Caslin is going taking over the role of mart manager as of Monday, May 24. Although, I’ll still be around for a while – giving him a hand settling in.

I hear that Elphin Mart has a new manager on the way. Roscommon native Kevin Caslin will take up the reins from Gerry Connellan on Monday 24 May. It’s a big gig with Elphin Mart now one of the leading marts in the west of Ireland. Kevin, who hails from just up the road in Hillstreet, has been working in Dawn Meats for the last 10 years. He’s coming in at an exciting time as buyers and sellers prepare to be back bidding ringside on Monday week. Local Elphin man Bernand Donohue will take up the role of chair of the mart committee, as Pat Dockery retires from the position.

Sales at Dowra Mart will resume next week.\ John Caffrey Dowra Mart has cancelled its sheep and cattle sales due to be held on 23 April and 24 April. Mart manager Terry McGovern told the Irish Farmers Journal that “a couple of staff have been identified as close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases”. The sales are cancelled following HSE guidelines as “a precautionary measure”, he added. Sales will resume at Dowra next Friday 30 April and Saturday 1 May. Elphin Mart sales cancelled Elphin Mart cancelled its Wednesday sale this week and has also cancelled its sale for next Monday following HSE advice after a mart customer was confirmed as a close contact of a person with COVID-19.
