The City of Española Public Safety Committee during its Jan. 6 meeting moved for the full city council to accept a $10,789.20 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to reimburse the police department for body armor purchases in 2020.
   Police Chief Roger Jimenez spoke about the armor during the meeting.
   âWe had the opportunity to apply for, I believe it was approximately $21,000 for bulletproof vest funds, and we were accepted and granted $10,789.20. Weâve been pretty aggressive seeking grants and this is one of them,â Jimenez said. âI wanted to give kudos to Lieutenant Richard Trujillo, we tasked him with getting this and he was able to get it done for us.â
