Take a look at this video that was shot by our nbc bay area hel helicopter. A single engine plane crashed on the bart track and caused a small fire. The pilot was crashed. It crashed under unknown circumstances about four miles east of hayward executive airport. The pilot was the only person on board. We talked to witnesses who saw the plane go down. I see that plane go. I see the big explosion. We saw him going down and his other propeller wasnt working. We saw he was trying to keep clear the home. The crash forced bart to briefly stop service between the south hayward station and the fr freemont line. Bart train started running once again. The delays did not significantly impact fans taking bart to the game. We have seen bart trains rolling through here. Bart officials tell me there are no delays. Reporting live in hayward. Radioed for help moments before the crash, telling air Traffic Controllers he was having trouble keeping the plane in the air. Plane came right over us. We noticed he was very low. Reporter moments later sarah smith said the plane nose dived, crashing near the train tracks where it burst instantly in to flames. We saw the smoke so we called 911, let them know where we were at. It was a big explosion. Then smoke coming out. Reporter witnesses say the pilot was trapped inside the burning wreckage of the plane and tragically would not make it out alive. Federal investigators are trying to figure out exactly what went wrong. Witnesses say the plane appeared to be having mechanical problems. Today as you mentioned having judge persky removed from an upcoming Sexual Assault case. It all comes down to a basic question of fairness. It is part of an ongoing fallout for his decision to sentence former stanford swimmer brock turner to six months in jail for Sexual Assaulting a woman who had passed out drunk in a Campus Fraternity party last year. Judge persky has faced backlash including calls for his removal or recalled. The d. A. s office says in this case a male nurse is accused of Sexual Assaulting a woman while knocked out during a medical procedure. Kpix 5 legal analyst Ladoris Cordell says it comes down to a question of whether or not the judge can be fair and impartial. They did not believe that he could be fair. And by fair meaning i think not in the presiding over the trial itself but if there were a conviction, they dont believe that office does not believe that he would be fair in the sentencing based upon what happened in the turner case.
